Lunar Eclipse

“Eclipses always mark important thresholds in our development…opening a whole different array of experiences, helping us redefine ourselves and create new directions in our lives.”

Michelle Karen, Astrology for Enlightenment

In the months of January, February and March, we will experience lunar eclipses and one super moon. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the moon and the sun are on exact opposite sides of the Earth. According to NASA, a super moon occurs when the full moon is at the closest point of its orbit to the Earth, making the moon look “14% bigger and 30% brighter.”

I find the night sky a wonder!

On January 21st, I walked outside at 12:21a.m. to gaze at the moon. While taking in the reddish, copper coloring nearly covering the full circle of the moon, a sense of reverence enveloped me. The air outside was cold and biting, yet there was inner warmth and invitation.

Nature’s miraculous events always welcome us to join in the celebration! Acceptance glowed within me; it would be just me and the moon tonight. My breath filled my lungs with ease…in sync with the breath of the moon as it shifted its position in the sky. Time became circular, a full, round moon shaped movement. Minutes passed unnoticed as I locked on to the lunar travel overhead.

When we witness natural wonders, I believe we return to our most authentic selves … a homecoming back to our beginnings. Gratitude and grace inform our mind and bodies once again.

Celebrating the full moon each month is a ceremony accessible to all. For the upcoming full moons, I will be present and allow the moonshine to fill me ever bigger, ever brighter!

“The Earth together with its surrounding waters must in fact have such a shape as its shadow reveals, for it eclipses the moon with the arc of a perfect circle.”
