Signs of Spring = Signs of Hope
In this time of pandemic, hope is elusive.
But look closely. There is hope in tender green leaves emerging from weathered woody vines, opening themselves fully to the sun.
There is hope in tulip poplar blooms, drooping catkins laden with pollen unleashed by wind.
There is hope in maple seedlings with wings to fly, ready to spiral down like helicopters and lodge in fertile ground.
There is hope in spent blue eggshells, the imagining of wide-mouthed baby robins safe in treetop nests.
Good omens all.
Look closely. There is hope in nature. Pollination, germination, regeneration. And the promise that spring always follows winter.
“Behold, my brothers, the spring has come; the Earth has received the embraces of the sun and we shall soon see the results of that love! Every seed has awakened and so has all animal life. It is through this mysterious power that we too have our being; and we, therefore, yield to our neighbors, even our animal neighbors, the same right as ourselves, to inhabit this land.”
