Nature’s Spring Concert

Each year, with the March Vernal Equinox, Nature prepares for her Spring Concert.

The performances debut in April and run for several months. Rehearsals begin with the musicians and chorus assembling in the Piedmont and the mountains of North Carolina.

Trumpeting daffodils are first to arrive and lead the horn section. Fiddlehead ferns follow with their tightly coiled tips resembling the scroll of a violin. Pure white cherry blossoms, tinged with the palest pink near the stem, tinkle and ting with the wind. Blue-gray gnat-catchers and Louisiana waterthrushes bring their loud, ringing musical song with barred owls and black crows rounding out the ensemble.

The entertainment would not be complete without the percussionists! Tree frogs, bull frogs and woodpeckers with their tap-tap-tap, shrill runs and low gulps add depth and richness to the musical score.

Stage lights come up as the sun goes down, dimming the concert hall with the softest of golden hues to spotlight the graceful harmonies. Find a folding chair, set it up outdoors, and enjoy the show.
